- Winter 2024
- Christmas
A time for celebration and family gatherings.
The church celebrates the birth of Christ Jesus at Bethlehem, all around the world. Nativity plays, carol singing, Christmas trees and decorations brighten the dark days of winter in the northern hemisphere.

We give thanks for the beauty of creation throughout the year. New scientific discoveries are happening all the time. Help us to protect the diverse plants and creatures that live all over the world.
-
We give thanks for our power network so that we can have warm homes during the winter months. We think of the people of Ukraine where power stations have been bombed and they have to cope in the cold.
-
We thank You for our NHS, under so much pressure, but doing their best to help those sick or injured, and those needing scans, treatments and operations.
-
We thank You for the many carers in the world: in nursing homes, care homes or own homes, looking after those with physical illnesses, mental illnesses and disabilities.
-
We thank You for those who help the drug addicts, homeless and helpless in our society.
-
We pray for those struggling to ‘make ends meet’. CAB volunteers can advise on Benefits, and Food Banks can help feed families.
-
We pray for a fairer distribution of wealth around the world. So may displaced people are risking their lives to reach a better life because of poverty and misery.

- New Year, New Start!
Shine, Jesus, shine, fill this land with the Father’s glory;
Blaze, Spirit, blaze, set our hearts on fire.
Flow, river, flow, flood the nations with grace and mercy;
Send forth Your word, Lord,
And let there be light! (Graham Kendrick)
Don’t just count your years,
Make your years count. (Ernest Myers)
Dear Lord and Father of mankind,
Forgive our foolish ways;
Re-clothe us in our rightful mind,
In purer lives Thy service find,
In deeper reverence, praise. (John Greenleaf Whittier)
• We pray again for world peace. Warfare brings such misery through destruction, injury and death. Comfort the bereaved, Lord.
• We pray for all the aid agencies trying to bring relief and risking their own lives to reach the displaced.
• We pray for those affected by natural disasters: floods, droughts, earthquakes, cyclones and hurricanes and wild fires.
• We pray for fair governance around the world.
